For me, luxury is about quality. It about knowing that care and time were taken in the craftsmanship. It's not about the inflated price tag, because let's face it, with a growing population of people who think that because they can charge it, they can afford it, anyone can "afford" just about anything these days (that's not to say there aren't plenty of people who can though). Exclusivity and luxury were once synonymous with one another, but something has changed.
When do you think luxury stop meaning exclusive? Was it when design-inspired shoes nearly identical to pricey Dior designs became available? Was it when counterfeit Louis Vuitton bags started to look more and more authentic? Or was it when $1000 Christian Louboutins could be purchased for $300 at The Outnet (not that I'd ever be one to complain about a sale *giggles*).
Let me say this. I still believe there's a certain level of exclusivity to say, travel and accommodations. I don't know about you, but $1000+ a night hotel rooms are pretty darn exclusive to me - and by exclusive, I mean excluding.
Do you happen to think luxury is still exclusive? What do you think has devalued labels and tarnished the namesake of premiere brands? Comment and let us know your thoughts.
